The quote that looked like a win

In March 2022, I approved a quote for 12,000 kg of a rayon and polyester blend for a knit program.   • No color tolerance agreement. We assumed Delta E < 2 because that's standard for brand-critical colors. The mill assumed 'close enough.'

The deeper issue: unit price vs. landed cost

It took me 4 years and about 160 fiber orders to understand that the cheapest quote is usually the most expensive one.   5. Trial run. 50–100 kg on your actual machines. If a mill won't support a trial, the savings are probably imaginary.

At least, that's been my experience with apparel and home textile programs. If you're sourcing industrial nylon filament, the test criteria change—but the transparency rule doesn't.

Transparent pricing isn't about paying more. It's about knowing what you're paying for before the first container ships. The vendor who lists all fees upfront—even if the total looks higher—usually costs less in the end. I wish I'd learned that before that mistake.
