In industrial or medical settings where disinfection is mandatory, use disinfectants labeled as compatible with nylon and follow the concentration limits. Don't guess.
What Changed in Outdoor Fabrics, and What Didn't
One reason these questions keep coming up is that the industry has changed. What was best practice in 2020 may not apply in 2025. Coatings are better, recycled options are more common, and customers ask for evidence. Per the FTC Green Guides (16 CFR Part 260, ftc.gov), environmental claims like 'recyclable' must be substantiated, and we treat it the same way. If a supplier claims a fabric is recycled, we ask for documentation and test data. The fundamentals haven't changed: you still need to know the fiber, weave, finish, and seam behavior before you trust the material.
Recycled nylon is a good example. Some of it performs close to virgin nylon, and some doesn't. The label alone doesn't tell you about UV stability or abrasion resistance. That's why the FTC rule matters: 'recycled' is a claim, not a spec. As a buyer, you have to verify.
What I Check Before Approving an Outdoor Fabric Cover
